Arguably the two most famous places in Africa, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater are yours to experience on this amazing journey. The Serengeti National Park is the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unrivalled in its natural beauty and biodiversity. With almost 15,000 sq km of endless rolling plains, the park teems with wildlife - from the tiny dik-dik to the magnificent African elephant. The equally impressive Ngorongoro Crater is home to some 30,000 animals and you won't have to travel far to see them. Roads in this region might be unpaved and accommodation very basic but if you have a sense of adventure and want to experience some of the most superb game viewing in Africa, then this will truly be a week to remember.

Stock up on essentials in hilltop Kisii - this is the last stop before journeying into the wilds. Famous for its soapstone, you might also like to pick up a few hand-carved souvenirs while here. | | Day 3 | Lake Victoria | Put tastebuds to the test at a tea plantation and learn how humble green leaves are turned into fragrant blends. Experience the untamed wilderness camping on the remote shores of one of the world's largest lakes. | | Days 4-5 | Serengeti National Park | Undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, the Serengeti National Park is a haven for African animals. Embark on early morning and late afternoon game viewing safaris through its savannah grasslands and hope to see cheetahs, leopards or gazelles. Safe and sound in a tent, drift off to sleep with the sounds of nocturnal animals in your ears. | | Day 6 | Ngorongoro Crater | Birthplace of human ancestors, Olduvai Gorge is an interesting place to explore. Continuing to the campsite on Ngorongoro Crater's edge, stop to admire the stunning sight of rolling grasslands thousands of metres below - few camps in the world have a view better than this. | | Day 7 | Mto Wa Mbu | Take a 4WD into the crater to catch sight of the prolific wildlife, including elephants, rhinos and lions. Camp in the market village of Mto Wa Mbu and maybe bargain for some ebony Makonde carvings or brightly-coloured Tanzanian fabrics. | | Day 8 | Nairobi | Travel across open plains and through Arusha, a beautifully-situated country town, on return to Nairobi. |
